Tambelin follows the NSW Syllabus for mathematics K-6 and teaches the outcomes specifically noted and planned in the school’s Scope and Sequence.
Maths lessons start with warm up/number talks (10 minutes), followed by lesson instruction and modelling by the teacher and then activities for the children to practice skills learnt. At the end of the lesson the group comes together to discuss what we are learning and what we need to learn. The focus throughout the math’s lessons is not the answer, but rather asking ‘How did you do that?’, ‘How do you know?’ and ‘What’s another way to solve that problem?”
